1. Some fighting training is always a good idea.
2. Weapons are not entirely necessary, but there will be times you might have to use them. Be sure to keep an eye out for a convenient blunt object or whatever, and if you already have a weapon, know as much as you can about how to use it.
3. Know the bad guy's strengths. If you're fighting a villain that can transform you into something else, you should know that, and be prepared to act so that you don't get turned into a penguin mid-fight.
4. Know your own weaknesses. If you have a trick shoulder that will be a problem in a fight, know to guard it, or add some sort of shielding to your costume. If your only weakness is some random object, try to make sure ahead of time that there isn't any just lying around somewhere.
5. Take at least a passing glance at your surroundings. Sometimes you'll be in a setting you don't know and can't control, but take note of where you are and of things around you, like if there's a big pit you don't want to fall into but can push them into, etc. etc.
6. Backup can be a good thing. Sometimes you'll want to do the superhero lone wolf thing, but if you have a sidekick, or another superhero you're working with, it's good to have assistance, especially for those supervillains. Don't forget that the police are really good for arresting the evildoers.
7. Gadgets can be great. Make sure you know what you're doing with them, though, or it could get embarrassing.
8. Trust your instincts. If something feels off, it usually is.
