MC #5, Monday evening

This is Janet moping. Shut up, she's allowed. The weekend hadn't been that bad, but the fact that someone recognized her on top of the rest? It means she's in jeans and a sweatshirt, with a pint of Chubby Hubby camped out in front of a DVD of The Journal.

"Brooding together seems somehow less pathetic. And less fattening," she says, looking into the carton. "And hey, I've even got dopey teenage romances all cued up!"

"You were a lot further along in your brooding than me," Ellen noted, smiling. "Do we want to do real introductions first?"

"Sure. I'm Janet. I'm a teacher up at the school," she says with a little wave. With the ice cream hand. "Hi."

"I'm Ellen, my daughter goes to the school up there and I work at Caritas," she replied, amused. "I don't envy you guys the next couple weeks after this last weekend."

"Yeah, I think we've kinda lost all respect. Though detentions for a while should just be booming," Janet says. "Can I get you anything?"

"A glass? Or two if you want any," she said. "I don't think I'm so mortified to be drinking straight out of the bottle yet."

She gets a couple glasses from the kitchen and heads back with them, and an extra spoon just in case. "Yeah, that would either mean an embarrassment level of oh, about eleven or so, or a problem."

Ellen sat down with a sigh, opening the bottle. "I think it might've been a high seven or an eight," she said.

"Yeek," Janet says, setting the glasses out sans coasters. "What'd you do?"

She poured the scotch liberally for both of them and picked up her glass before answering. "Cried all over my daughter and kissed a boy," she said. "I don't even know who he is outside of having a dog." She took a good sip and shook her head. "Oh, and I told my boss his mother is mean and he should be nice to people."

"Yeah, Dog Boy came to apologize to me today for calling me a fathead," she says. "He's better as an adult, I think. At least you probably gave your kid a good amount of mortification, huh?"

Strangely, a plus side in Janet's mind.

Ellen grinned. "Woke up on Sunday to meet the boy she likes when he knocked at her door," she said, sounding a bit pleased.

"Nice," Janet laughs. "Did you kick him in the shins or anything? I hear that gets points across."

"I threatened to hurt him, but from the way Jo was banging her head on the wall, that was enough," she said. "There anything you're not going to live down?"

"I taught one of my students to fly and my secret identity got revealed on the radio. Twice. Oh, and I also told my TA," she says, and there's drinking now.

Ellen gave Janet a long look, followed by another good sip of her scotch. "So you can really fly?"

"No powers whatsoever," she says. "But apparently at five I thought they'd be really cool."
